Evaluation of summer work

Summer Work for Media Level 3 Diploma

For my Summer work, I had chose; Watch an online tutorial, watch a sport / sport team and lastly watch a subtitled film. I chose all 3 of these because they are not something I would do on a daily or even weekly basis. I chose things I knew I'd experience new things in and so I can either learn something new or find new interests. I enjoyed all 3 tasks, they allowed me to go through a different kind of experience and do something I wouldn't normally do.

 Activities:

Watching an online tutorial turned out actually very useful, i watched videos on how to remove rust on bikes and methods that I watched were methods i would have never thought to have done. Putting rusty bolts in coke will actually fizz of the rust and make the bolt look brand new, this is also something I can share with my friends and so they can do it to. A challenged I faced was trying to keep up with the video at the same time I'm trying to do what it says. The man presenting the video had a lot more equipment than me which can be very frustrating.

For watching sport I decided to go watch a local cricket match, I didn't know a lot about cricket or even know how it was played so it was all new to me. The game was actually very enjoyable as it was peaceful due to no shouting throughout the game. I had been to a lot of football and rugby games before so cricket was a whole new experience. The challenge I faced was trying to know what goes on in the game. I wasn't familiar with the rules in cricket so half the time I wasn't entirely sure what was going on, however I learnt more as it went on.

For a subtitled film, I chose "Die Welle", which translate to "The Wave" from German. I've never really payed much attention to movies that weren't in my own language, but it turned out quite enjoyable as I saw it as very different to American styled movies.Movies from other countries always put me off as i thought id never be able to enjoy them but it turns out the making and meaning can be very different compared to a standard american film. The main challenge was watching the movie the same time as reading the subtitles. I found it hard to read and watch at the same time meaning i missed out on words and parts of the movie, I'm sure I could learn to read faster or get use to reading the subtitles, plus more subtitled films can get me used to them.
